Sword Art Online Virtual Reality Game in the Works

IBM Japan has announced that Sword Art Online will be getting a virtual reality game titled Sword Art Online: The Beginning. The game will aim to create the world of SAO.

The game will not use a controller, but will be played by moving your body. SAO series creator Kawahara Reki says that “it will be completely different from any game experience so far.”

The project is using a next-generation computing system called the “Cognitive System” that supports human decision-making, as well as “SoftLayer,” IBM’s high performance cloud system that produces the ambiance of a real world.

The official website of IBM’s project is taking applications until March 4 for a prototype alpha test to be held between March 18 and 20 in Tokyo. A total of 208 applicants will be accepted.
