SMAP to Disband December 31

Last year, popular idol group SMAP were trying to disband due to their long-time manager Iijima Michi’s imminent resignation but decided to stay together. Today, Johnny & Associates has announced that the group will officially disband on December 31. The group might be breaking up but they will be staying with the company and focus on solo careers starting next year.

The group, formed in 1988, is one Japan’s most famous idol groups. They made appearances in films, dramas, commercials, and so on.
